Idol Live Blogging

just making preps s’all… since Wizbang Pop! has a live blog thread… (also follow along with the peeps at Idol Tongues if they even show up...)

I’m gonna go give deboobily posting rights, so she can add to the main screen, or she can post in the comments, if she wants…

In the absence of Chris, I like both Taylor and McPheever, they both have different styles, and from the voting last week, are fighting over Elliot’s 1/3 of the vote.

But in an effort to remain impartial, I’ll be rooting for the wardrobe malfuction tonight.

So much for good intentions… smile
bit
So, watching it an hour or so after AI aired, I think Fantasia was the best.

Kat’s replays were aiight, but sorry, the last song and the way she sung it was awkward, if not bad.  The last bars of the song, her body language was full-tilt ‘get me outta here’ mode, she knew the song blew, and that she sang it badly.

Taylor’s songs were good, and his presentation of them classic goofy Taylor, which is always enjoyable.  I think he’ll win easily… won’t be a question ala Reuben/Clay.

But the real question was, did you stay up and watch House?  Man great episode, a bit Whedonesque-Firely-Objects in Space as it dealt with the whole of Greg’s mind in the seconds/minutes after he was shot.  Not your typical end of the seasoner, but we got the cliffhanger, House is still shot, and we have the big question about whether the treatment for the gun-shot may heal his leg.

Grooeve out.

    yup.  Taylor’s gonna win.

Don’t get me wrong.  I think Taylor deserved to win after last night.  He brought it on and with the exception of “Leave On”, he had the audience on his side.  He is just so entertaining to watch, and so unpretentious.

HOWEVER, I think Katharine’s voice is more suited for radio, and she is so fun and flirty that I think she’s far more marketable.

I was disappointed in Fox’s coverage last night.  It seemed totally stilted toward Taylor, almost as if they want the guy to triumph over the girl.  Did you notice how every time Taylor sang they showed all these fans with Taylor signs but when Katharine sang, they only showed her dad crying?

I don’t know who wrote the last 2 songs but they were both terrible.  I loved Katharine’s song better - a much better message than the insecure, “Did I Make You Proud??  Huh?  Did I??  Did I?? Validate me!!” (oh, sorry, I guess that wasn’t REALLY the name of the song, it just seemed it) - but it was too low, too “pop” for her to really shine.  Give it a makeover, transpose it up a step or two, and it will be a top-seller, and a new wedding standby.

Congratulations, Taylor.  You will be a great American Idol.  I’d pay money to see your show, but no offense, dude, I’m buying Katharine’s album.  Your voice is nothing without your act.

    Deboobily out.

Wow… even Paul at Wizbang is still holding out hope for Katy-did.

But tonight’s Idol will be horribly anti-climatic.  Hands down on performances, Taylor stepped it up, Katharine looked downright deer-in-the-headlights scared.

The audience saw that and voted for Taylor.  (I do agree with what Paul is saying though, in three years, Chris and Kat will out sell Taylor in total sales… but that is the story of Idol)

Still the flat out best final performance bar-none in Idol is Fantasia’s performance.  And she hasn’t sold much of anything since.  Neither Taylor or Katharine (or Carrie or Bo) has brought it like that girl did.

(I used to see Taylor as better on the radio, because you didn’t get distracted by his schict, but I’m thinking that I agree with you, in the end, Katharine has the chops to really bring it in a studio, and have a really great engineered track (not taking anything away from her talents, just her performances live weren’t near as good as what she could do in a studio, where there are multiple takes, and she can actually give up on a song when she’s known she’s blown it...)

The guy that wrote those final performance songs definitely deserves a slap.  What gets me the most about Kat’s song is this:  All season long, she has exhibited problems when singing in the lower register.  Even though her voice excels quite far beyond the rest of the contestants in general (especially Taylor), that’s something she definitely needs to work on.  So what does this guy do (referring to whoever it was that wrote her song)?  He starts her off on notes that would probably make her choke!  Ya know I think your right!!  FOX IS “stilted” towards Taylor, and they paid this composer to write those songs in a way that doesn’t really show Kat’s talent, if not at least in a way that would make Taylor shine (to me Taylor never shines, so I can’t say much about his song).
