Lost ends…
Thinking on the last episode of the season of lost, and where it could possibly go on from there.
Wizbang Pop! posted a link to this graphic which has some highly speculative linkages between all the castaways, half of which I don’t think exist. (UPDATE: here is a better graphic - from Lostpedia
But thinking about how Lost is produced each week, and the main point of the flashbacks is to reveal the broader background and mythology of the storyline. The main backstory people, Jack, Kate and Sawyer are all in captivity with Henry. The sub-characters of Sun/Jin, Hurley, Charlie and Clair are still at the camp (or will be after Hurley tracksback) along with Rose/Bernard. And the three questionables Locke, Eko and Desmond are unaccounted for at the end of the season. Since the final tie-in (and cover your eyes Debily, since you may not have watched this) links Desmond’s girlfriend with the island, we can somewhat assume that Desmond will give up the German spy gig and become a regular Lostee, but will Locke and Eko stick around.
Ana Lucia’s backstory is as dead as her characters, and will join Boone and Shannon in the dust heap of unresolved connectors in Lost-land. Libby never had a featured backstory, but appeared as a character in two others, as a in-patient in Hurley’s (and Locke’s mother’s) asylum, and as a new widow in the final Desmond back story. The other Hurley freak accounting is that her husband’s name is David, that died in an accident, and Hurley’s make believe friend is Dave, that surfaced after Hurley ‘caused’ as freak accident. Same fellow?
Michael and Walt are going into the sunset, and though Michael may return, I think Walt is out of the picture. Their back story I think is in the same place as Boone, Shannon and Ana-Lucia’s.
The fodder for next season, Jack, Kate and Sawyer of course, but we might get a glimpse of an ‘other’ backstory with Henry and/or Zeke. Desmond, Eko, and Locke (aka the button-pushers) will have some intertwining storylines next season. And Charlie/Claire/Hurley will join Sun/Jin in promient storylines along the way, as we learn more of what goes on before the plane crash on 9/22.
I’m currently reading ‘Bad Twin’ and so far don’t see any meaningful connections, other than the Whitmore’s are kinda creepy. The deal though is this is a red-herring, as the novel is a fiction in the Lost canon, not non-fiction, so it might reveal a theme, but I don’t think it will ground into Lost-reality at all. Besides, the Whitmore names are messed up in the book and what we know of the Whitmore’s in the series. So the adage of the conly canon for Lost is that seen on the screen in the episodes should be maintained.
OY! its gonna be a long summer.
EDIT: Oy! I fergitted Sayid… and Rouseaux… they’ll be in the mix too… since we need to get to the bottom of the whole Alex mess.

Okay, I looked into the graphic. Most of those connections are valid, and a couple of them have been theorized. My thoughts on it. Rose is Walt’s grandmother. Okay, you would think she would be closer to Michael, the father of her grandchild. Seems odd, but I have heard that one before. And now for something completely different: Fake Henry is Aaron’s grandfather. Okay, where did this come from? So is he Claire’s father, or the dad’s father? I did not see that one coming. That’s it for now.
